April 2015 Newsletter

A Message from Lauren Holmes | President, Portland Chapter 54

Spring is here and boy has it Sprung! The weather could not be any better, flowers are popping up all over and the days are definitely starting to feel longer. I don’t know about you, but it also seems like work is popping up all over the place. The market is hot and there are a lot of really cool projects going on around us! A big thank you to Lease Crutcher Lewis and Ben Tompkins for our fabulous tour of the Elephant Lands exhibit at the Oregon Zoo. Our behind the scenes tour of the Elephant Barn was amazing and it was cool to see and hear about all of the specialty construction associated with the Elephants. It was fascinating to talk about engineering for elephants and that they did not quite get it right the first time, and they needed to reinforce some of the shade structures to ensure the bulls could not ‘move’ them. It was truly unforgettable and we are so lucky to have been able to get the sneak peak at what is coming online later this year. Next up we have HVAC 101. This will be an awesome presentation from Daniel Driver at TraneOregon where he will help clarify the HVAC world and break down the acronyms. Be sure to RSVP with Aryn Trimble Ferguson if you will be attending the April meeting. We still have an open meeting in August. Please let us know if you have any ideas for topics, tours, etc. and we will get something awesome planned for the month. The votes have been counted, and Melody Draper and myself will be attending the Alaska Forum at the end of the month representing the Portland Chapter in our last Region 9 Forum. This is sure to be a great event and all are welcome to attend. Please let me know if you are interested in attending as it is sure to be unforgettable. Hope you all have a wonderful month of April!
