Date/Time: Tues, March 9th from 5:00PM – 6:00PM via zoom.

About:

  • Help get books into the hands of kids! Here at The Children's Book Bank we try and make it so that our donated books are up to gift quality for the families they are going to. We do this through repairing the books, removing stickers, scribbles, and inscriptions.

Details:

  • Primary Contact: Emmilea Short, Emmilea.short@jedunn.com, or by mobile (503)572-3315.

  • Emmilea Short will be picking up boxes of books prior to the event and coordinate to have them dropped off at CRESA office (1355 NW Everett St, STE 100, Portland, OR 97209) so that people can pick up books along with the whiskey or paint night items.

  • Once there is a list of all those interested, Emmilea will send out the zoom link.

  • Following the event, Emmilea will pick up the books from participants and drop them off at the book bank. Option to fix donated books you already have or purchase.

Supplies Needed:

  • Colored Pencils and Markers- This is for coloring in any creases or wear and tear in books. It truly brings books back to life!

  • A Blunt Object for removing stickers-. This can be the edge of a ruler, butter knife, etc. as long as it isn't sharp.

  • Hair Dryer-This is for stickers that are really stuck. Blow the hair dryer on the sticker and that will loosen the glue.

  • Clear Matte Tape- This is for taping torn pages and covers.

  • Mrs. Meyers Everyday Cleaning Spray - This is for the last step of wiping down the book. If you can't find Mrs. Meyers feel free to use any GENTLE and NONTOXIC everyday cleaner. Products with lots of bleach can be harmful for the books.

  • Glue Stick- This is for gluing down pages if there are inscriptions.

  • Rubber Eraser- This is for erasing things that aren't supposed to be there.

  • Scissors or Exacto Knife - This is for cutting out pages with inscriptions.

  • Sticky Notes- These are VERY important. When you return books that are recycle, community, or have an inscription you can’t get rid of, you will differentiate them from the others with a sticky note saying what needs to be done. This will help us when we go through the books once you return them.

  • Small Bowl - Filled with 50% coconut oil and 50% baking soda. - This is for removing the sticky residue left behind from stickers.

  • Book Plates (optional)- We have lots of book plates at the book bank, but if you wanted to use some you have at home feel free to use them to cover up inscriptions.
