Steven Frost has over 12 years’ experience as a Safety Manager in the Construction Industry. In his own words, Steven believes that “the best way to get people to buy into safety is by creating a culture of caring and empathy.

We need to realize that what we are doing has to be made safe for our workforce and in turn for the families that depend on the workers.

The “We are HERE FOR YOU” program recognizes that the Construction Industry is faced with a great deal of stressors that can weigh on the workforce’s mental health. A 2016 CDC report showed that the rate of suicide for the Construction Industry is among the highest rates of most industries.

The program lets the workforce know that there are people at the site that they can talk to and that can get them in touch with resources so that they can get help and get through their crisis moment. It is important to remember that this is not training for people to become counselors, but it is training for people to be listeners and to have the resources to give people that may need it.

Mental Health and Suicide Prevention transcends all boundaries and is a human issue. By having access to resources and creating awareness, there is a potential to help others not just at work, but also at home and in the community.”
