Please join the Community Service Committee in supporting Girls Build and the upcoming Portland Camps. Three one-week long camps will be running form 8am-4pm at University of Portland. NAWIC is providing hammers for each girl emblazoned with our logo, as well as, looking for volunteers to help support the staff. If you have time to spend even one day, please let us know. Summer camp is an opportunity for for girls to learn fun building basics in a safe environment from female role models. Over the course of the week, girls will learn the basics of framing a house, wiring electrical circuits, roofing, concrete, soldering copper, tree climbing, painting, mechanical problem solving and big pipe plumbing. Girls will be building a playhouse that will be donated to a local non-profit, and will see the project through from plans to paint.
Girls receive a hard hat, safety glasses and ear protection, and will bring home one personal project.
